NPCs will usually take it upon themselves to help out in areas and in jobs best suited for them. NPCs, just like everyone else, want to feel valued and contribute to the community. This is part of what helps make NPCs happy. PCs can direct NPCs to specific locations or specific tasks as well, but this may have an impact on them and moral depending on the situation. The more people there are in a given area or assigned to a certain task, the easier the work is on an individual and happy they can be overall.
